Topic: MK&C / Pyro opens links in other browser windows My pyro opens links in other browser windows (which is ok), but it also opens Members, Account and Settings in other browsers. Is this the way it is supposed to work? |

Topic: Knox / Can't open vault using Knox 1.5.3 I can’t say for certain what actually happened, but from the logs it appeared that some NIB files could not be read from. Did this go away by itself, without touching the Knox application? |

Topic: MK&C / "Hiding" pyro doesn't My typical workflow is to open pyro, connect, then hide it via apple-H. If I do this, the app hides momentarily, then reappears about a second later. It takes about 3-4 hides before it actually does hide itself. It appears to do this whether I use the keyboard shortcut or select Hide Pyro from the Pyro menu. Not the biggest bug in the world, but a bit annoying. Thanks! |

Topic: Knox / Can't open vault using Knox 1.5.3 The vault being not highlighted in the menu might mean we’ve gotten stuck trying to open the vault. Just to be certain, is your copy of Knox the latest 1.5.3 version? |

Topic: Knox / Unable to change the user or group of files, dirs Sorry for the late reply. I thought “Monitoring topic” would notify me by email. The manual way worked like a charm, thanks. Out of curiosity, is “-owners on” up for consideration for inclusion into the GUI in the near future? |

Topic: Knox / compacting vault The compaction time depends mainly on what was the combined size of the deleted files. Compacting a vault from where I deleted 15 files, 250 megabytes each for a combined ~3.7 gigabytes took seven minutes for a random selection of files, and around four minutes for files that were created one after the other. The overall size of the vault might have some effect as well. I’m afraid at this time there is no faster alternative to this process. |

Topic: Knox / compacting vault I’m using Knox as a secure folder for large files. I’ve come to reaslise that the vault does not act like a normal folder as in the folder size does not decrease when I delete files. I have tried compacting the vault but I had to cancel the operation because it was taking so long. The vault size is 112GB. Is the compacting process a long one or is there something wrong? If it is a long process is there an alternative way of dealing with a high turn over of old files that need deleting? |

Topic: Knox / Need some clarification... Yes, if it it’s absent from both the menu bar and Dock, Knox is not running. You can check for running applications with /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor.app, where you put in application name in the “Filter” box. Knox stores a vault password in the “login” keychain if you choose to do so. When you log in to your user account, the keychain is unlocked and Knox can retrieve these vault passwords. For added security, you can choose to set a different password for the “login” keychain than what your account password is. To do this, open /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access.app, right-click the “login” keychain and select Change Password for Keychain “login”. You will be asked for the password every time you log in to your account. You can also set the timeout values, so that if no application has accessed a keychain for a set period of time, it is automatically locked. |

Topic: Knox / Input/Output Error - Can't open! The file might have gotten corrupted due to a failing hard disk, or a sudden volume ejection perhaps due to a power failure. I’m afraid backups seem like the only option here. |

Topic: Knox / Need some clarification... So… Say I choose to display Knox in the menu bar instead of the Dock. If the icon is not in the bar, then the app is NOT running, correct? Then, to get it to run, I need to either click the icon in my Application folder, or set it as a login item. Is that also correct? By the way, if I choose to set it as a login item, am I defeating the purpose of the intended security of Knox? (I don’t believe I am, because one would still need to enter a password to open a vault anyways, right? Just because Knox is running doesn’t mean I’ve compromised my security…. I think.) Thanks for any feedback you can provide. |

Topic: Knox / Can`t find file on Vault, but disc space is reduced Hello! That does seem strange. The file is not displayed by Finder and `ls’? Was this a brand new vault you used? If so, can you reproduce it by deleting the vault and doing the same thing again? If it does happen again, could you try and “Verify Disk” for the mounted vault volume in Disk Utility. Is this on Tiger or Leopard? Yes, you can erase the mounted vault volume without ill effect. You might also want to compact it to reclaim hard disk space. |

Topic: Knox / Can`t find file on Vault, but disc space is reduced Hi! I transferred a 140GB tar file to my knox vault but it`s not shown on the vault. The strange thing is that the size of the vault, a complete hd, is reduced by exatly 140gb. Where is the file? Another thing I`d like to know: can I “quick format” the vault without creating the whole vault new? Thanks in advance, |

Topic: Knox / Unable to change the user or group of files, dirs Your diagnosis is the right one. Unfortunately we don’t have a flag you could set for this at the moment, so your only choice would be to mount the vault manually with “hdiutil attach vault.sparseimage -owners on”. |

Topic: Knox / Unable to change the user or group of files, dirs I’ve created a new vault successfully. But when I try to chown or chgrp files or directories inside the vault, it will silently fail. I’m going to hazard a guess that it is due to how it’s mounted. The noowners flag seems to be the culprit: noowners: Ignore the ownership field for the entire volume. This causes all objects to appear as owned by user ID 99 and group ID 99. User ID 99 is interpreted as the current effective user ID, while group ID 99 is used directly and translates to ``unknown’’. That’s as far as I got into the problem. Is there a way to mess around with how Knox mounts sparse images? |

Topic: Knox / Sparsebundles Lack of sparsebundle support is the only thing keeping me from buying Knox. I use Time Machine with a Time Capsule, and it just doesn’t make sense to use Knox when it forces the older, less friendly sparseimage on users. Knox is now $35, and Leopard has been out for almost 9 months… |

Topic: Knox / Mounting a vault at an alternate mount point Unfortunately, other users are able to see the existence of open volumes even if they have no access to the mount point. So from a data security point of view, there doesn’t seem to be a benefit. There are other situations where custom mount points would be desirable – a lot of people have requested the feature in order to replace data at a fixed path with an encrypted copy – but so far we’ve resisted the urge and erred on the side of simplicity. |

Topic: Knox / Mounting a vault at an alternate mount point Is it possible to specify an alternate mount point for Knox’ vaults, so that instead of mounting the vault at the default /Volumes/ directory, I could mount it within my home folder or another location? Basically, I would like to create a vault that mounts to /User/$HOME/Accounts instead of /Volumes/Accounts; ideally in a location that other users on the same system cannot access the mounted image or even know that it exists. I know that hdiutil -attach ”/path/to/disk_image” -mountpoint ”/Users/$HOME/.../MountPoint” will basically do what I am looking to accomplish. But I would love to be able to have the option in Knox’s more friendly interface. Any suggestions on how I would go about doing this? |

Topic: Knox / How Can I Remove Knox From A USB Thumbdrive Hi! You can delete a whole-disk vault by first closing it, quitting Knox, reinserting the drive and erasing the volume in Disk Utility. Disk Utility can be found in /Applications/Utilities. After reinsertion, your thumb drive should be in the sidebar, with “(Knox vault)” appended to the end of the volume name. Simply select it, click the “Erase” tab on the right, choose a new name and click “Erase…”. |
