Topic: Knox / Knox 1.5.3 Always Resets to Icon View The Leopard Finder is indeed quite strange, you can override the setting by setting column view and selecting View > Show View Options… > Always open in column view. HTH |

Topic: Knox / Vault renames to "Macintosh HD" It is an annoying bug that will be fixed as soon as I can find a way to produce it in a constant fashion. I don’t really see why it would make the vaults unsafe, it is just an irritating bug. |

Topic: Knox / Vault renames to "Macintosh HD" I’ve seen it for sure, but I just can not reproduce it constantly. Any help to make it reproduceable is very welcome. I agree, the keychain issues are probably not due Knox. Thanks, |

Topic: Knox / Knox menu unresponsive Could you take a sample1 of Knox with the Activity Monitor during the hang and mail it to me using the helpdesk mail address that can be found at http://knoxformac.com/support/ . Thanks. [1] While Knox is unresponsive, select Knox in Activity Monitor and select the menu item View > Sample Process |

Topic: Knox / Can´t open Try to open the archive with Finder. Ctrl-click to the vault and choose Open with.. > DiskImageMounter I frankly do not know about the message, I can not find that among the error messages of Knox. We have just English and French localizations and that looks more like Spanish or Portuguese -Jussi |

Topic: Knox / SpotLight setting does not stick That sounds a bit strange. Is it just one of the vaults that is working with Spotlight? Is the vault in any way different to the vaults that work ok with Spotlight? -Jussi |

Topic: Knox / Slow in Leopard? Hi, Sorry for a slow response. At the moment most of us are using Knox on top of Leopard in-house and we are not seeing this kind of behaviour, so this issue needs a bit more investigating. Please send me a mail at jussi DOT hagman AT karppinen DOT fi (replace AT and DOTs) . I’ll contact you and we’ll hopefully track this problem down. If you feel like it please write a few words about your setup, which computer, how much memory, where are the vaults stored (internal HD, external HD, network drive, something else?), how many vaults are there in total and if it is just Knox that is “beach balling” or are other applications slow at the same time. I’ll ask more information if it is needed. Greetings, |

Topic: Knox / No password needed? All Knox created vaults are encrypted disk images. This means that they can not be opened without the correct password1. The software that is used to open the vaults, whether it is Knox, Disk Utility, DiskImageMounter or another compatible application does not change that. They all need the password and ask for it. Given that fact one of the following must be true: the vault in question is in fact not an encrypted vault or Disk Utility does get the password somewhere, most likely from the Keychain. As far as I know there is no way to create unencrypted vaults with Knox, but given it may have happened to you we are very interested in investigating this issue. Please contact us at http://www.knoxformac.com/support/ and provide us with information about the model of your computer, version of operating system and Knox and if possible a Knox created vault (empty or with unimportant content) that behaves in this manner. Thanks, [1] Obviously it is possible (given infinite time and CPU resources) to break vault’s encryption with cryptanalysis but that’s is not the issue here. |

Topic: Knox / No password needed? If the problem is indeed that the Keychain contains the password of the vault, as Marko suspected above, you can use the Keychain Access application to remove it from the Keychain. Here’s how: Open Keychain Access application and type sparseimage to the search field. Now you can see only the passwords in the selected keychain that are associated to disk images, which Knox vaults are. If you see a password there associated to the vault in question just select the row and press the delete key (backspace) and confirm the dialog sheet that appears. If you have several Keychains and don’t see the vault you are looking for please repeat the procedure for the other Keychains. As mentioned the entry’s name can in some cases be a previous name of the vault. I hope this helps. Please ask on the forum or contact us directly if you have more questions regarding Knox. |
